Simona Doniņa

Doctor of Medicine, Associate Professor, oncologist and chemotherapy specialist with expertise in immunology. Leading researcher at the Augusts Kirhenšteins Institute of Microbiology and Virology, Rīga Stradiņš University.

Education: Graduate of the Faculty of Medicine at Riga Medical Institute, followed by clinical residency at the same institution. Postgraduate training in the United States, Russia and Austria. She holds a doctoral degree in medicine and is involved in teaching and research. Her special interests are tumour immunology and immunotherapy.

Associate Professor Simona Doniņa consults adult patients on tumour immunology and supportive treatment, assesses their immune status and advises on supporting immune function. Consultations address recovery of strength, additional support during chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and other relevant questions.

Oncology consultations are often needed after extensive cancer surgery to prepare for planned radiotherapy or chemotherapy. They may also be needed when signs of immune deficiency develop during treatment, or when patients with other medical conditions experience weakened immune function during cancer treatment. Consultations after cancer treatment can help assess options for immune recovery.

Guiding principle: “Let’s pay more attention to the factors we can change — be physically active, eat more vegetables and fewer processed foods, see our family doctor regularly for preventive care, and set aside at least an hour every day for proper rest and our well-being.” — S. Doniņa
